Justice Advisor-Afghanistan

The Department of State, INL Bureau is seeking 2-3 Justice Advisors to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the Afghan legal system, with a particular focus on criminal justice, human rights standards, humanitarian law, national security, gender initiatives, and legal education. · US Citizenship

· JD from an accredited law school

· A minimum of 10 years of legal experience

· Excellent writing and communication skills

· Superior negotiation, interpersonal, and managerial skill

· Experience in planning, strategizing, implementing, and reporting on projects

· Proven ability to work well with others

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite • Prior international work experience

· Basic understanding of US foreign policy in Afghanistan

· Secret Clearance


· Experience in post‐conflict nations, especially Afghanistan or Iraq

· Knowledge of Sharia law and civil law systems

· Regional language skills

· Overseas experience working in implementing rule of law projects

· Experience prosecuting international criminal cases

· Experience working at the DOS

· Experience working at a legal development organization

· Demonstrated experience managing large US assistance programs

· Ability to work effectively with host‐nation counterparts, departments, and ministries to further US program goals and objectives and communicate those issues in a timely and concise manner

· Familiarity with international organizations involved in justice program components in missions around the world, and demonstrated ability in coordinating programs in a multi‐agency, multi‐donor environment
